7 Common Confusions about Home Insurance
Confusion #1: Is it right to consider the purchase price of the house while calculating the coverage?
Solution: It is the most common mistake. In the event of loss, the land of your house doesn’t run away. You don’t need to rebuild the land. So it is unwise to consider land in your insurance calculation. You should consider the replacement cost i.e. the cost of rebuilding the house on the same land.
Confusion #2: Flood Insurance is only for people who live in flood prone areas.
Solution: It isn’t. Lending institutions, providing mortgage, will make it obligatory to purchase flood coverage if you live in the flood prone area. But keep in mind all the areas are at the risk of flood. You can buy this coverage even if you don’t live in flood zone. The recent flooding in Midwest has proved the point. It doesn’t come free with the standard home insurance policy.
Confusion #3: The medical payment option of my home insurance also pays for injuries to me and my family.
Solution: It does not. The medical payment option only covers injuries to the visitors on your premises given they do not want to sue you. It covers up to $1000 a person of such claim. You and your family are not covered.
Confusion #4: If my home is damaged in the event of natural calamity or some other reason, I will get complete reimbursement from the insurance company.
Solution: Only if – you have a made a detailed checklist of all the household items. So it is advisable to prepare such list well in advance. Make a detailed list of such items, cull together receipts to prove ownership, take photos and make a video of the same. It is a risk free formula.
Confusion #5: I will get full reimbursement in the event of loss by fire.
Solution: Only if you have fire extinguisher and smoke detectors installed in your house and secondly if you have made the above mentioned checklist of the household items.
Confusion #6: I will be reimbursed the entire cost of jewelry in event of burglary.
Solution: Only if you have taken an extra coverage for the same. Insurance company generally covers up to $1500 of such cost, for the additional you will have to get the extra coverage.
Confusion #7: Home insurance covers mold and lack of maintenance.
Solution: It does not. Home insurance covers your home only from the listed perils – which are uncontrollable. Maintaining the house is your responsibility and why should company pay for your negligence?
How much are dental crowns in the midwest after insurance coverage of 60%?
I need to have 3 crowns made for 2 molars and 1 bi molar. My insurance is covering 60% of each crown.
I had 3 root canals totally around $500 after 80% insurance coverage, done by a endodontist.
I gave my dentist $180 when I had the perm filling put in and will be giving him $540 when i am fitted for the crown. He had to insert a post into the molar. Is this about the correct costs after the 60% insurance coverage? This is only for 1 crown and Ill have 2 more to cover. I have yet to see any insurance claims on the insurance company website for the dentist but saw them for the endodotist.
700 for the root canal and around 350 for the crown. I have had several and this seems to be my average out of pocket expense with 60% coverage. It sucks but it’s better than the toothless option. Even people with dentures have to have alot of care so take care of what you have for as long as you can whatever the cost. Once you catch up with the other teeth you will be happy. I know I am. Nothing worse than a real painful toothache or the smell of a rotten tooth. Get er done.
